Bermuda Beaches

Bermuda has some magnificent large and small beaches. Some great ones are public, meaning that anyone can enjoy them. But some are private, not for general public, only to their guests - re-assuring to those who stay at properties with private beaches. Beach sand is not volcanic but from finely pulverized remains of calcium carbonate shells and skeletons of invertebrates such as corals, clams, forams and other shells.

Horseshoe Bay

Widely regarded as the most beautiful of Bermuda´s many beaches, Horseshoe Bay provides a treat for anyone fortunate enough to sink their feet into its talcum powder style fine pink sand. Horseshoe Bay´s name comes from its unique horseshoe shaped sands which wrap around gorgeous clear blue aqua waters. Horseshoe Bay is incredibly popular, this beach is ideal for families with young children, as the sheltered coves offer plenty of shade and opportunity to paddle.

 Elbow Beach

The pale pink sand stretches for almost a mile at Elbow Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Bermuda. At least three hotels sit on its perimeter. Because protective coral reefs surround it, Elbow Beach is one of the safest beaches on the island for swimming. Around Easter, it tends to be packed with college students who invade Bermuda for spring break.

 Warwick Long Bay

This popular beach, on the south side of South Shore Park, features a half-mile stretch of sand against a backdrop of scrubland and low grasses. Despite frequent winds, an offshore reef keeps the waves surprisingly small. Less than 60m (200 ft.) offshore, a jagged coral island appears to be floating above the water. There is excellent snorkeling here -- the waters are clear and marine life comes in close to shore.
