The Dominican Republic is world-renowned for merengue so it is no surprise that the annual Dominican Republic Jazz Festival consistently attracts a line-up of jazz performers with a Latin slant. Concerts are held on the beach in Cabarete and at the Gran Teatro del Cibao in Santiago.

Nightlife in the beach resorts is fairly lively with bars and discos along the waterfronts.
